B-47 NOSE SECTION

This actual nose section of a B-47 bomber was used in the filming of the movie, "STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND". The 1955 film starred Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson and was filmed in Vista Vision. A special seamless screen, 70 feet by 40 feet, was made for the Paramount Theater in New York City for the inaugural showing.

The idea for the movie came after Jimmy Stewart spent a day with General Curtis LeMay, Commander in Chief of Strategic Air Command (SAC) at the time. Stewart had joined the Army Air Corps as a private, nine days before Pearl Harbor and later flew combat missions in Europe. He left the service after the war as a Colonel and later advanced to General in the USAF Reserve.

A B-47 in included in the heritage aircraft display outside the museum.
