The A-26 was designed as a medium attack bomber replacement
for the North American B-25 and Martin B-26 of pre World
War II vintage. The Invader saw combat in every theater of
WWII, Korea and Vietnam. It was redesignated the B-26 in
1948.
The Douglas B-26 was the last aircraft to bomb North Korea
(1953), dropping a bomb load just three minutes before the
cease-fire agreement was signed. Several of the aircraft
were supplied to anti-Castro forces during the 1961 Bay of
Pigs incursion. Later models were refurbished and used in
Vietnam for reconnaissance and combat duties.
