The F-84F Thunderstreak, with swept-back wings and tail, was
introduced in 1949 as a competitor to North American's F-86
Sabre. Over 1,000 were delivered to NATO countries as a
front-line ground support fighter. Although it was built
too late to see action in the Korean War (1950-53), some
did see combat while serving with England and France during
the 1956 Suez Crisis.
The F-84Fs were gradually replaced by supersonic F-100s in
the late 1950s. In 1953, the Air Force Demonstration Team,
The Thunderbirds, flew the F-84G.
