Pilot in command of 'Question Mark' which established
world endurance record, 1929. As Commander Eighth Air
Force and U.S. Strategic Air Forces in Europe during WWII,
developed and led the air campaign of continuous precision
bombing which assured Allied victory. Champion of independent
U.S. air power.
First Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force, 1947-48. Died 14 July
1974.
