Born Lolo, Montana, 1 September 1900. As Chief Executive
of the Boeing Aircraft Company from 1945 to 1972, his
forward thinking leadership and administration brought the
company successfully through post war industrial recession
to its premier position in the Aerospace Industry -- to
become the world leader in the production of commercial
jet transports, strategic bombers, tankers and missiles --
contributing most significantly to U.S. preeminence in civil
and military air power.
