The 1940 models were only slightly changed from the 1939 models
due to the increasing anticipation of World War Two. The 1940's
had a larger, more streamlined body, built-in headlights in the
fender, a more complicated fender design (made from seven pieces
of sheet metal), and "alligator" type hoods trimmed with three
sets of slanted louvers. The DeLuxe models shared the same
sheet metal as the lower priced Specials, but were available with
an option of inline six or inline eight power on a longer wheelbase.
In 1940 a new model called the Torpedo was introduced with a more
steamline body and no running boards. By 1941 all models were based
on the Torpedo style, making the 1940 the last year of production for
the Special and DeLuxe.
This car was purchased by Don Holmberg's grandfather in 1940 and has
been in the family ever since. The car has been slowly restored to
its original condition.
