In 1948 the XK 120 Jaguar was introduced to the waiting motoring
fraternity at Earls Court motor show in England. This was the
first Jaguar to be powered by a genuine Jaguar developed motor,
and in 1949 it officially became the fastest production car in
the world, exceeding 120 MPH the model became known as the "120."
In the hands of professional race drivers the car brought prestige
and notoriety among racing venues and racers. The XK 120 also
inspired American auto makers to build the Chevrolet Corvette,
Ford Thunderbird and Kaiser Darrin. In 1956 William Lyons, the
man who developed and started Jaguar, was knighted for his services
to the British motoring industry.
This car was completely restored by San Diego Automotive Museum
volunteers. The project spanned over one year and is factory
correct.
