1937 HAYES
TRAILER
Model 230 - The Cruiser
On Loan from the Bishop Collection
This camper/trailer was built in Ontario, Canada. They were
designed with luxury in mind. Three models were offered and
the one you see here is the smallest with a total length of
fifteen feet. The trailer interior was furnished with Philippian
mahogany, and they came with every amenity that an average home
had to offer. Along with the outer steel door, a screen door was
also offered. For the colder months a cast iron heating stove was
added. The trailer offered two beds, a sink, an ice box that had
a capacity of over 50 pounds, a 15 gallon water tank, electrical
outlets, a sink, and plenty of cabinets and storage space.
This trailer was bought new, used for a couple years and then placed
into storage for over 50 years. It has needed only basic restoration
and cleaning. These trailers were designed to utilize every inch of
interior space in a very careful manner. Even the chassis was to be
constructed of the strongest materials with minimal weight.
