The Palm Springs Air Museum houses a large collection of mint-condition aircraft from World War II. The collection is divided into two main sections; the Pacific Theater of operations and the European Theater of operations. All of the planes inside the museum are WWII-era piston-engine aircraft. I don't know why they have two jet aircraft on display outside, other than the fact they look cool. But even if they aren't from the same period, they are very beautiful aircraft nonetheless.

B-17 Flying Fortress

B-17 Flying Fortress

For an additional fee of $3, you can tour the inside a restored B-17 Flying Fortress. It is quite interesting to see the cramped conditions in which the aircrews had to work (apologies to the docent who thought it was quite roomy, but if I have to constantly crouch to walk around inside, and keep banging my knees and elbows against metal, it's cramped.). Of course, it was not built for comfort, it was built to carry bombs. For it's intended purpose, it was a stunning success.
