Born Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on September 14, 1921.
Poberezny taught himself to fly at the age of 16, and,
at 17, soloed in 1935. Poberezny served during World
War II and the Korean War and retired from the Wisconsin
Air National Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Paul Poberezny is best known as the founder and longtime
president of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)
and the originator of one of the world's largest and most
popular aviation events, the annual EAA International Fly-In
Convention. Under Poberezny's guidance, EAA focuses on
virtually every aspect of general aviation. The EAA
Aviation Foundation was established in 1962 and is dedicated
to the development and history of sport aviation. One of
the Foundation's most important efforts is its youth program
which features flight experience, aviation technical education
and scholarships for young people. In retirement, Paul
Poberezny continues his association with the EAA as
Chairman of the Board.
