Louis Charles Breguet
French Aviation Pioneer - Aero Industrialist
Born in Paris, France, 2 January 1880. His engineering training and early aviation interest led him to produce a highly sophisticated wind tunnel in 1905. This recognition of the advantages or pre flight technical evaluation made his first aircraft produced in 1909 accepted throughout the industry as the standard for quality and safety. During the 1914-18 war the Breguet Company manufactured some 8,000 of his famed Breguet XIV Reconnaissance aircraft for the Allies, contributing to victory and the emergence of Air Power. As early as 1911 he evidenced a high interest in air transportation and carried 12 people aloft in his aircraft. In 1919 Louis Breguet formed Campagnie des Messageries Avienne which today flies throughout the world under the banner of Air France -- and his original manufacturing company continues as a vital segment of French Aerospace Industry.
