Born Wirsitz, Germany, 23 March 1912. As chief scientist at the Peenemünde Rocket Center in Germany, developed the first long range ballistic missile, the V-2.

Emigrated to the U.S. following WW II and became head of Army missile development, producing the Jupiter and Pershing rockets. As director of NASA Space Booster Programs, developed the Saturn rockets which powered the Apollo flights to the moon. A visionary whose advanced concepts will permit man to live and work in deep space.
Elected to the International Aerospace Hall of Fame 1965
