Born Muscogee, Florida, 1908. Her distinguished aviation career began in 1932 when she obtained her pilots license with only 3 weeks of instruction. Her life has been one of total dedication to aviation and from her first air race in 1934 she was respected among all for her competitor spirit and high skill. Her performances in the aviation events of the 1930s are legendary. Among her record flights was the establishment of a 1964 record of 1429 MPH in the F-104 Starfighter.

With U.S. entry into World War II She formed and led the famed Women's Air Force Service Pilots. This group more than 1000 strong played a major role in the delivery of aircraft to the combat areas throughout the world.

Holder of more aeronautical records for speed, altitude and distance than any other person in aerospace history. Dedicated, courageous, skilled aviatrix.
Elected to the International Aerospace Hall of Fame 1965
