The T-38 is a supersonic lightweight aircraft. The wings have no dihedral, no trim tabs or de-icing system. Known as the "White Rocket" the T-38 was the standard graduation pilot trainer for the USAF since 1964 and a space flight readiness trainer for NASA astronauts. It was also used by instructor pilots who flew with the F-117 Stealth fighter and the U-2 spy plane. The T-38 was also flown by the Air Force Demonstration Team, The Thunderbirds from 1975-1982. T-38's were also used as chase planes for research and development aircraft. This aircraft was delivered in 1961 and served at Webb AFB, Tyndall AFB, Moody AFB, Columbus AFB and Sheppard AFB. In 1991 it retired and was delivered by truck to the museum. In April 1999 it was restored to represent and honor the Air Force Thunderbirds 1976 bicentennial team. The active Thunderbirds team of 1999 and 10 former Thunderbirds assisted the museum in dedicating the T-38.
